I am one of the five Court martial Committees, where sentences of death were commuted in March last. The first time I was asked for money by Mr. Mitchell through an Interpreter, whose name I do not know, but whom I can recognize if I see him. He also came to the God with Mr. Mitchell. The Looking... present. They did not ask for any particular sum. They asked me to give back some money for the excessive amount of our food whilst we were under sentence of death. They did not say to whom it was to be paid back. The Interpreter told me that it was Mr. Mitchell's desire that it should be paid back. The reason assigned was the excessive amount of food. The Interpreter said that if we did not give the money, Mr. Mitchell would not take care of us on our arrival nor would he... our wives.
